Outdoor Adventures

Carmel Beach

A picturesque spot for sunset walks, dog-friendly outings, and surfing. ​Just a 5-minute stroll from La Playa Hotel.


Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

Ideal for coastal hikes, wildlife spotting, and photography. ​About a 10-minute drive south from town. The main parking lots fill up early, especially on weekends, but you can usually find street parking along Highway 1.


17-Mile Drive

A beautiful, scenic route along the coast that winds through Pebble Beach. There's a $12.50 per car entrance fee (waved if you dine at a Pebble Beach restaurant!). Pro-tip: check out the daily bagpiper performance at the Spanish Bay fire pits in the evening.


Garrapata State Park

About a 15 minutes south of Carmel, features coastal cliffs, wildflowers, and trails suitable for all levels. ​


Carmel River State Beach

A peaceful beach perfect for picnics and birdwatching. A 5-minute drive from town, it is much quieter than Carmel Beach.


Big Sur

If you are up for a little adventure, Big Sur is about a 45-minute drive south of Carmel along one of the most breathtaking stretches of Highway 1.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

A must-visit for marine life enthusiasts, this world-renowned aquarium offers over 200 exhibits showcasing the diverse marine ecosystems of the Monterey Bay.


Whale Watching

Monterey Bay is a prime location for whale watching, with various tours available to witness the majestic marine mammals in their natural habitat.


Cannery Row

Once the heart of the sardine-packing industry, Cannery Row is now a vibrant area filled with shops, restaurants, and attractions, including the Pacific Biological Laboratories.
